How this is built.

Astro, MDX, static output on Vercel. Keystatic for editing, which writes markdown files into the repo so nothing lives in a database.

Schibsted Grotesk does the display and the body, in two modes: heavy uppercase for the assertion, light italic for the human part. Courier Prime handles anything technical, which felt right for someone who has read a lot of screenplays. Caveat only ever annotates and never sets a headline.

The hand-drawn marks are generated from a seed rather than drawn once, so no two are identical and each piece redraws the same way on every build. About forty lines of maths.

What I would do differently: I built the design system before I had written anything, which is the right order for a site and the wrong order for a point of view. The first three essays will probably make half of this look wrong.
